Lawsuits under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act were on pace to grow 30% over 2025 as of the end of May 2026, according to WebRecon, which tracks consumer lawsuits monthly.

The numbers

WebRecon said the increase was seen across the board nationally and was not specific to a single industry.

Complaints to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau were also climbing. At the end of May, they were on pace to run 34.8% higher than the previous year.

How the CFPB database works

The CFPB complaint database is public, but complaints appear only after the company responds or after 15 calendar days, whichever comes first. The agency also removes complaints that do not meet all of its publication criteria, so the public count reflects only the complaints that clear that process.

Both figures are projections based on year-to-date activity rather than full-year totals.
