More than $1 billion in business loans and merchant cash advances has been originated through the eBay Seller Capital program since its inception, according to a cumulative figure since 2021 that was revealed last fall. eBay relies on partners such as Liberis to fund the deals.
Part of a broader trend
E-commerce platforms have seen rapid growth in merchant funding programs. Amazon, Shopify and Lightspeed, for example, also offer financing solutions that generate significant annual volume.
The Liberis partnership
When eBay and Liberis announced their partnership in 2024, Avritti Khandurie Mittal, eBay's VP and General Manager of Global Payments and Financial Services, said eBay is the home of small businesses in more than 190 markets and that eBay Seller Capital is aimed at fueling sellers' growth with tailored financing. She said adding Business Cash Advance, in partnership with Liberis, expands capital availability for sellers on flexible terms when they need it most.
The program combines loans and cash advances under one seller-facing brand, with Liberis supplying capital on the cash advance side.
